blogodengi.com PC Guard- Completed (Technical Help) Page 1 blogodengi.com
I don't and have never used Virgin BB myself and it was disabled but I kept it and it was occasionally used for virus scanning individual files as the right context menu "Scan For Viruses" would launch it. However at some point I stopped using it and when eventually did use it I got an error message saying it hadn't been used for 30 days and the subscription neede to be validated.
Then I received "Copy Protection" message saying it has been installed on too many PCs and needed to be uninstalled from one to be able to use it on this one. Right so I thought: it's not working, I don't need it so why not delete it?
That's the problem:- 1. No unistaller. Therefore I can't use those to uninstall it, obviously. I tried simply deleting the program but shortly after that starts sending the contents to the recycle bin I get an error message warning me AVCntxR. I finally checked Task Manager but I couldn't see anything running to stop which appeared to be connected to Virgin Broadband, PC Guard, Radialpoint or Freedom the latter of which is the apparently a name of some services PC Guard may launch.
Its Hunter mode won't work either. I've repeated my attempts to remove PC Guard logged on as administrator even though my account has full admin status anyway and I've tried doing it in all three Safe Mode options too. I have found an uninstaller tool downloaded from the Virgin web site but my version of PC Guard is shown as Radialpoint 5.
So I'm wary of using it. Look I know this program isn't doing any harm, it's not using up system resources or much HDD space but it doesn't need to be there and if I can remove it I'd like to know how to do it as simply and safely as possible. Any ideas? Run ARDiag and post the report. Then I'll tell you what to remove and how. Then you "kill" and make some clean up 4.
You still need to perform registry cleanup though, so I advise you to stick to my initial solution anyway. Last edited by EscondeR; at MSI package or equivalent and re-run this with the "uninstall" option?
No un install. The best way without that I suppose would be to do as esconder suggested -- boot in safe mode so as not to load the.
You should then be able to remove it without issues, along with the rest of the directory. From there, you'll want to get rid of any auto-run entries context menu included and clean up registry associations. Is it listed at all in CCleaners program's list? This means the installer package must have been in existence at some point - but has been removed if you get errors when trying to run it. As said it is an old version of PCGuard and from the information I've found online unistalling it was and is a pain because there wasn't uninstaller provided.
There are stories of Virgin, not so helpful, techies having to unistall it remotely. I don't think EscondeR was saying that. It might not be the only troublesome. It gives the same error message about it being used by another program too despite being empty. One thing I tried with PC Guard was to get it to appear as a program by pinning a shortcut to the Start Menu, no good.
Then I tried moving the launch. But at some point in the process I found I have the now managed to get the whole thing working again. Now there's no error message or warning that it has been installed on too many PCs. All I had to do was launch it direct from the. Go figure. My theory is that the problem removing it is something to do with the right-mouse click context menu option which launches the on demand PC Guard AV scan.
An uninstaller would take care of that but in this case that is not an option. I suspect with EscondeR help I may have to do that job myself. The system canot find the path specified. Delete file But without knowing exactly what to 'kill' I'm not going to do anything.
