Ben will no doubt be able to hook some salmon while swinging flies on this two-hander. He might even trick a trout or two on mice. The fish would not be hooked if it did not choose to take the fly or bead. Of course sometimes fish get foul-hooked no matter what terminal tackle you are using. I fish chironomids in lakes a lot and every year I foul hook several fish on them.

BTW I attach beads to my leader by passing the leader through the bead three times. The bead stays put about an inch above the hook. I chamfer both ends of the hole with a drill bit to remove the sharp edges that can cut the leader. Re the bare hook behind the bead…what type of hook do you suggest…? I just slip the hook onto the loop. Of course , when I center pin fish I do a lot of funny things…. You have any idea what color you all are using now? Which Beads? These are quite a bit larger than a real king egg, but the fish love them, especially in the early season. Sockeye Sockeye beads are smaller — 6 to 8 millimeters. If the fish seem choosy, go small. Best colors are live egg, orange, tangerine, mauve and dead egg, and again Sally Hansen Barely Pink can help.

Chum Chum beads range from 6 to 10 millimeters. We like mauve, very light purple and purple haze. Silvers Again the size range is 6 to 10 millimeters. Silver eggs are a bit deeper red.

The standard sockeye colors work good, but try to go a bit darker red than pink. Pinks Even though we have a bumper crop of pinks every other year, pink eggs seem to be less of a factor. Narrow your search: Economy Rounds 10 items. Rounds 45 items. Tubes 11 items.

And finally I have a bunch of plastic beads that I have quit using since they are not much different than letting the sliding sinker bang on the knot. Apr 22, 6. Apr 22, 7. Messages: 1, Fishbones likes this. Apr 22, 8. I use plastic beads from a hobby shop. They cost little for a lot of them. I use a lot of braid and Palomar knots are small enough to not have the bead banging on the knot. For mono I use beads that have the larger holes in them I got at a resale shop for really cheap.

Fishbones , Apr 22, Apr 22, 9. I use some I get from Amazon in bulk. They are oval luminous glow beads Not that that matters. I like them better than anything I have tried. They are a little stiffer than bumpers from team catfish or bass pro and really cheap.

I just have to think about what the purpose for a bead is to realize that keeping a heavy slip linker from banging up and down on a knot is not helped a lot by having a hard plastic bead doing the same thing while the sinker pounds on the top of it.

Especially if it has a sharp edge around the hole that hits the knot. A little piece of rubber with a hole in it should cost a little of nothing. Hopefully some company will decide to make good inexpensive bumpers and know they will make money because they will sell a lot. Not because they will charge 10 times what they are worth.

A good alternate would short lengths of aquarium air hose. It is somewhat soft and will easily fit over the knot. The large plastic bead pictured above is a hard plastic but the hole going thru it is large and the edges are well rounded so that they would do little damage to a knot.

Any weight bigger than 2oz and you would be lucky if you still have that plastic bead after the first cast, the big weights will crack them off. But like I said, when I used plastic beads it was with large enough holes to sit over the knots. Simple solution is to switch to braid main line. BBK , Apr 23, I don't often get down into mussel beds Kevin.
